Graduate Student Poster Session Proposals
You are formally invited to submit a poster session proposal for the biannual NARACES conference on to be held Thursday, September 18-Sunday, September 21, 2008. As in the past, graduate students have a choice to propose a regular session presentation or a poster session. The conference will be held in beautiful Portland, Maine at the Holiday Inn by the Bay (see www.innbythebay.com)!
Graduate students who have their proposals accepted and present at the conference will receive a reduced rate on their conference registration. Please note that your poster does not have to be based on a research project.
Developing a Poster Presentation
Posters
A poster presentation allows for question-and-answer sessions, and the exchange of ideas and information regarding your research, project, or innovative ideas.
Organization and Layout
The tri-fold board is ideal for a poster presentation and can be purchased at Wal-Mart or Staples type stores.
General Tips:
Presenter name(s): Institution and department
The title should be readable from 20 feet away.
The body of the writing should be readable from 6 feet away.
Make section headings distinct from the body of your writing.
Use graphics, photos, and pictures, anything that visually represents your presentation.
For display, print PowerPoint slides and tape them to the poster board.
Add emphasis with bold, underline, or color. Italics are harder to read.
Used effectively, color is an effective method of attracting people to your poster.
Use contrasting colors for readability and a professional look.
Mount your printed material (text and graphics) on a colored background to create a border/frame.
Prepare handouts that highlight the key points of you research or project ideas.
For more information on what a poster session looks like, please see: http://www.gmu.edu/departments/writingcenter/ppt/index.htm
You need to:
Complete the proposal form online.
SAVE and E-mail the form by April 20, 2008 to: kdouthit@warner.rochester.edu
If your poster is accepted:
Prepare materials you wish to hand out to conference participants. It is especially helpful if, for example, your topic is “needs assessments” to have copies of your needs assessments for participants to use at their setting. You might even consider giving out copies of materials on CD. Whatever makes your poster practical and informative will be extremely well-received by participants.
